Meet Sherman Jenkins: The man behind "TMSG"

Sherman L. Jenkins is President of SLJ Communications, Inc. based in Aurora, IL. SLJ Communications, Inc. is a digital media company and parent firm for "Tell Me Somethin' Good or TMSG, a digital monthly publication that covers African American life outside the City of Chicago. The publication has been in existence for more than six years and has more than 3,900 subscribers.

 

Prior to launching his firm in 2007, Mr. Jenkins served as Executive Director and Assistant Director of the Aurora Economic Development Commission (AEDC) for the City of Aurora. He began service with the AEDC in 1991 until he retired in December 2012. The AEDC under Mr. Jenkins' leadership fostered the development of the city's first downtown Master Plan, established the formation of the Seize the Future Development Foundation, led a negotiating team to land the Chicago Premium Outlets, spurred the construction of the Eola Road Interchange and spearheaded the attraction of many corporations such as FHP and International Paper.

 

Before joining the City of Aurora, he served as Assistant Director of Corporate Relations at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL; Senior Account Executive with Golin/Harris Communications, Inc. in Chicago, IL the national public relations firm for McDonald's Corporation, where he directed various national public relations programs; and Director of Communications for Chicago Youth Centers and Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago.
