QCAACC Scholarship Jazz Brunch A Sell-Out, Scholarships, Aspiring Entrepreneur Award Presented

On Saturday, February 1, 2020 the Quad County African American Chamber of Commerce held its 12th annual Scholarship Jazz Brunch at the Hotel Arista in Naperville, IL. “This event was particularly special as we celebrated both our 12th year anniversary for our Jazz Brunch as well as our 27th year of service as a Chamber,” said Sherman Jenkins, Chairman, Board of Directors. “As in previous years, our goal was to award deserving African American college students’ financial assistance for books, tuition and housing. Candidates needed to have a declared major in Business and/or one of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) disciplines.” The 2019 event saw the QCAACC award a total of $5,000 in scholarships to quad county (Kane, Kendall, DuPage and Will) area college students. This year the Chamber matched that amount and received participation from McDonald's Kazanova Management and Laborers Local 582.. “The first Scholarship Jazz Brunch was held January 31, 2009. Since 1996, approximately $60,000 has been awarded to more than 65 African American college students living in the quad counties,” Jenkins said. “In honor of our 27 years of service, we again presented our Board Supported “Aspiring Entrepreneur” Award. The purpose of this award is to help an aspiring entrepreneur to grow his/her business,” Jenkins stated.

This year’s receipent was The Tidy Queens Company and its owner and President Ms. Shian Jno-Lewis. The Tidy Queens Company, based out of Aurora, Illinois, is an office cleaning service that provides affordable cleaning services for businesses. (www.thetidyqueens.com).
