She was born and raised in Aurora, IL where she still resides today. St. John Steward Emeritus Mrs. Jessie Martinez recently celebrated her 100 year of birthday with a celebration ceremony at the Cathedral of Grace St. John. Hundreds turned out of the ceremony as well as IL Congressman Bill Foster and City of Aurora Mayor Richard C. Irvin.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Aurora on May 20, 1918. She is a graduate of East Aurora High School and served as a Crossing guard in the Aurora Community. Mrs. Martinez has been a member of St. John AME church since she was a child.
“This was a wonderful celebration for a wonderful woman who has meant so much to me personally and our church family as a whole,” said St. John AME Pastor Jesse Hawkins.
