Wheaton, Ill., — Cantigny Park marked Black History Month with three fascinating and free-to-attend presentations at the Robert R. McCormick Museum in Cantigny Park, 1s151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, IL:
“Joseph Medill: Cantigny’s Abolitionist”
Interpretation Manager Jeffrey Anderson presents the intriguing story of Joseph Medill, a Civil War-era newspaper publisher, vocal slavery abolitionist, original Cantigny Park inhabitant and grandfather of Robert R. McCormick. The program is geared to adult audiences.
“The Underground Railroad in Illinois”
Local historian and author Glennette Tilley Turner explores the history of the Underground Railroad in Illinois and its presence in Chicago’s western suburbs. The program is geared to adult audiences.
Living-history actress and scholar Pamela Welcome presents Harriet Tubman, the famous Underground Railroad ‘conductor’ who led hundreds of slaves to freedom. The program is ideal for families and children ages 10 and up.
