    We are Main Baptist Church - the church Where Christ is the Main Thing! More than just a slogan or a motto, this is the heart of our ministry. We strive to advance the Kingdom of God by proclaiming the Word of God, leading lost souls to Christ and ministering to the needs of the saved and unsaved. We exist as a growing family of faith in God and love for one another with a vision to be Christ Center by focusing on Jesus Christ, our Main attraction; Purpose-driven by fulfilling His purposes, our Main activity; and Spirit-filled by following His Spirit, our Main authority.

    We have been a beacon light at 814 E. Galena Blvd for more than 142 years for anyone seeking a safe place for spiritual growth and fellowship, meeting the needs of every age group, providing an atmosphere of loving acceptance where we grow through real worship. We meet each Sunday at 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with Sunday Church School at 9:30 a.m. We have Prayer and Bible study every Wednesday at 12 noon and 6:50 p.m. as well as Thursday evenings at 6:50 p.m. Our Bible studies are designed to encourage a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Christ.

    So, whether you are just beginning your walk with God or a committed believer continuing your walk with Him, you can find a home at Main Baptist Church.

    New Beginnings

    About Us

    Our story is a journey of faith beginning in 1963 as a prayer group seeking a new beginning. God heard the prayers of the faithful and Progressive Baptist was born. We were blessed to worship in the Little Theater of East High School for three years before moving to 20 N. Lincoln Avenue. This address became our home for 42 years. Endowed with faith, we were determined to grow beyond the previous Jewish Temple that we had converted to a Baptist Church. Our faith-filled storied journey inspired us to purchase 21 acres on Aurora’s West Side in 1999. As our journey continues, we are mindful that it is not about us but about Him who works through us. As of February 2008, Progressive Baptist moved to its new 10 acre campus at 7S494 Barnes Road, Aurora, IL. (See rendering above).

    Our Purpose

    We are called to teach the Gospel in a clear, bold, life application manner that leads believers to life changing experiences. We exist to build God’s Kingdom by being a Spiritual Foundation for the community.

    We are a spirit-filled church, serving as a beacon of light in our community…striving for excellence in spiritual growth, evangelism, education and finance.
